music

music is something i listen to pretty much every day, and it's a great way for me to work through and express my thoughts! i honestly would say that music has changed my life, in a way, and it's shaped who i am. i'm not very great with the technical terms for everything, and it's really hard to fit my music taste into clear "genre" boxes, but i still would love to share my favorites with everyone!

i track my listening habits with a free site called last fm, it's really cool and you should check it out if you haven't already! it shows what i'm listening to in real time, it's actually how the "now playing" widget gets its info! you can also follow people on there, check out my profile if you want! ^_^

anywho, with that out of the way, if i had to say what genres i'm mostly into right now, i would say breakcore, speedcore, new wave, and indie (pop, rock, alt, i think indie is really vague though). while i love all of those, my favorites fluctuate all the time and i hyperfixate on a specific one for a while before cycling through to another one lol >_<

my top favorite artists (to name a few) are of montreal, vylet pony, halley labs, self, gynx, stomach book, and cats millionare! there's also some old favorites and honorable mentions!

of montreal

i discovered of montreal at the end of 2023 and immediately became obsessed. they're currently my #1 most listened to artist, at over 10k listens! i had a period of a few months where i literally only listened to them, i think it was 9,000 listens in a row? it's really hard to put an exact genre on them, i've seen them described as "art pop", "indie pop", and psychedelic. each album is emotional and personal, fitting so many feelings that i have. my top listened albums are satanic panic in the attic, skeletal lamping, and hissing fauna, are you the destroyer?, although i love almost every album they've made. if it's your first time listening to them i'd reccomend starting off with hissing fauna. i also think that paralytic stalks is a completely unique listening experience that i genuinely have not heard anything similar to from another artist.
